Background: The intensive care unit (ICU) is a distinct organizational and geographic entity for clinical activity care, operating in cooperation with other departments integrated hospital. Surgical patients make up significant number of those admitted into the ICU. Materials Methods: This ten-year retrospective study conducted at University Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. Results: mean age surgical ICU 35.88±18.17. More females (884, 56.9%) were compared to males (537,34.6%). highest bill paid by patient 493,000 naira. maximum duration stay 227 days. A total 919 (59.2%) transferred out ICU, while 78 (5%) discharged Conclusion: importance surgeon cannot be overemphasized. 35.88 years. Females more common than males. Many (64.2%) recovered or discharged. Obstetrics gynaecology department had admission. Better prenatal antenatal may help reduce this trend
